Logical fallacy in "The Good Doctor"

In the TV show “The Good Doctor”, we see that the logical fallacy hasty generalization is seen almost too often. Doctor Shaun Murphy is the main protagonist and a surgical resident and with autism and savant syndrome. The show opens up with a child getting injured and Shaun being the one to correct the doctor that was already there and save the childs' life. The first encounter of this fallacy is seen when the board is considering why they should hire Shaun, especially because of his diagnosis. Autism is a mental condition from childhood that is focused on the difficulty of communicating and forming relationships with other people and in using language and abstract concept. Shaun also has almost perfect picture memory and is extremely intelligent, especially with analytical abilities and therefore is usually able to discover problems that no one else can think of. After being hired, Dr. Murphy faced a lot of prejudice continuously. This is clear when he is assigned to one of the main surgeons Dr. Mendez who tells Shaun immediately that “as long as you are on my team, you are on suction”. This basically denounces Dr. Murphy’s abilities instantly. It is very clear with almost everyone he meets that they do not believe he should be a doctor. Several patients or parents of patients even said that they would allow the surgeries, but Dr. Murphy could not be in it. This was especially the case when Shaun met a boy who had autism just like him and the parents of the boy were in disbelief that he made it so far. They did not believe in his abilities until Dr. Mendez told them “we can do the surgery for you, but Shaun is apart of my team if you do not like that then you are welcome to leave”. They allow this, and Shaun helps with the surgery. Although they have their hasty generalizations about Shaun, they eventually leave when Shaun is able to prove himself time and time again. This logical fallacy is used very often, as we see in the show, to judge people who we do not know. If we generalize too soon then we can classy things wrong and that can lead to a lot of problems; because of this Shaun must prove himself to be a good doctor and it isn’t fair to him just because he has a diagnosis. Shaun works hard when facing this fallacy, and the show reminds us that this is something we do on a daily basis to many people that we do not know and that can sometimes get us in trouble. This logical fallacy is used almost all the time and if you watch closely in the reality, we see that this also effects our own mindset and our lives, it’s better to be aware of what we say and do. The characters on The Good Doctor makes these generalizations very often and we often see that this can cause trouble for them and their patients.
