Disclaimer: Everyone has different study habits and this one is for the ones that want a deeper understanding of the material in order to use the knowledge even after taking the class. I personally use this method and have always done well because it works for me, this may not work for everyone but you can always use it as a template and revise it. It may also be a little intense but completely worth it!
Step 1: Gathering the materials
Gather all the material that you want to study for a particular class. Make sure this is 2 weeks in advance if you’re preparing for an exam.
Step 2: Arrangement
Arrange your materials by chapters in which you learned the materials. If your professor has learning objectives for their class, be sure to make that the first material that you look at. Learning objectives are the outlines for most exams and ensures that this material is of significance.
Step 3: Create a study guide
As you are looking at the learning objectives make sure that the material answers the question or coincides with the learning objectives. Also be ensure to make up questions that could be asked when taking the exam. Now don’t confuse making a study guide for studying, they are not the same!
Step 4: Begin to study!
If starting 2 weeks in advance then begin with the first chapter by going through the material, looking at Power Points, and rewriting the answers if needed.
Step 5: Studying
When studying try to study right after the class or 1-2 hours a night Make sure if you’re starting at least 2 weeks (around 7-12 days) in advance have your week outlines like this:
Day 1: Create the study guide, and additional study material
Day 2: Study first chapter
Day 3: Study 2nd chapter
Day 4: Study 3rd chapter
Day 5: Study 4th chapter
-After studying all the chapters you still have a week and some days until the exams.
Day 6: Study chapter 1& 2 and test yourself
Day 7: Study Chapter 3 & 4 and test yourself
Day 8: study all chapters together and if they is any material you don’t know please email or schedule an appointment with your professor
Day 9: Study all chapters once more and test yourself, be sure to take plenty of 10 minute breaks in between
Day 10: Study material that you’re still having trouble with and get it out of the way!
Day 11: It’s the day of the test day and you feel prepared YAY. Now all you have to do is glance over any material that you want to look over and you’ll be fine! Good luck students!
Step 5: Taking breaks and mental preparation:
Take 10 minute breaks between studying and do not pull all-nighters. If you miss a day that is fine, that is why we decided to use the 2 weeks, to give you time.
Tips: Turn of or put away your phone during study time. It doesn’t matter how soon you study, if you’re distracted you most likely won’t learn anything. Also it’s better to study during waking hours because you retain more knowledge after sleeping.
Step 5: Relax
After dedicating your time to studying now you can relax afterwards!
